These peanut butter cup spider cookies are soft and chewy and super cute! They won’t last long if there are any cookie lovers nearby. To me they look like a spider on an inner tube, clinging on tight with all 8 legs, afraid of falling in the water. My daughter and I both fell in love with them the instant we added the eyes. She wanted to add more eyes, since spiders in real life have 8 eyes including an eye on the top of their heads, but nope, I wouldn’t let her. I know these spider cookies aren’t true to life, but they aren’t meant to be. They’re meant to be CUTE and something humans would love. I know some of you are creeped out by spiders and I’ve probably said too much already … Yeah, ’nuff said there.
This is my second recipe for #Choctoberfest 2019 and I want to send a huge thanks to Imperial Sugar for sponsoring the event and for sending me a big box of Imperial Sugar + a nice baking mat and some cute measuring cups. My son the super picky eater is the biggest fan of Imperial Sugar. I asked him what’s different about it and he said that it tastes like pure sugar, not like preservatives or bleach. I never noticed these fake flavors he speaks of in other sugars but I trust his discerning taste buds when he tells me Imperial Sugar is superior.
I have to say the Imperial Sugar sure made some awesome tasting cookies!
My daughter and I made these cookies on a whim the night before the big pumpkin picking fest at my parents’ place last weekend. My parents plant pumpkins up on the hill on one of their plots of land and they grow like mad. This year there were more than ever and my whole family was gathering for the picking.
What better time to make a big batch of adorable cookies? My daughter has been in a HUGE cookie baking mood and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Lots of cookie eaters! So she and I went to work … and once we’d pulled them out of the oven and added the peanut butter cups and the googly eyes, we were in love. Both of us had our phones out and were shooting pics to send to our friends.
Our spiders didn’t even have any legs yet! But the eyes were enough to capture our hearts. (Photos were taken after legs were added …)
I got up the next morning and added the legs to most of them before it was time for yoga. My daughter finished the rest after I returned. We ran off to get some coffee while we waited for the chocolate legs to set before we could transport them.
We packed up most of the cookies (leaving a few for my son) and headed up to the pumpkin picking fest. Once people laid eyes on the cookies, I couldn’t believe how fast they disappeared! I had a stash a couple aside for my sister who wanted to save hers for later and she had to hide them away from the others or they would have been gone too.

PrintPeanut Butter Cup Spider Cookies
- Prep Time: 30 minutes
- Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 2 hours
- Yield: About 24 cookies 1x
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup Imperial Sugar granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup firmly packed Imperial Sugar brown sugar
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 7.5 ounces by weight all purpose flour (about 1.5 cups measured)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- About 24 peanut butter cups, unwrapped
- About 48 candy googly eyes
- 2 oz or so of milk or semi-sweet chocolate, melted + a long toothpick for painting the spider legs
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F. Line a cookie sheet with a silicon baking mat or spray with cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter and sugars until fluffy. Stir in the egg and vanilla until well mixed.
- Sprinkle the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt over and stir to mix.
- Use a medium cookie scoop to scoop up equally sized balls of cookie dough. Shape into balls and slightly flatten them. Bake for 12 – 14 minutes. or until lightly browned on bottom.
- Remove from oven and gently press a peanut butter cup, larger side down, onto each cookie. The peanut butter cup will melt as it sets into the cookie. While the chocolate is still hot and melty, set 2 eyes into the side of each peanut butter cup. Remove the cookies from the baking sheet and let sit in a cool place until the chocolate is set.
- Melt the chocolate, then dip a long toothpick into the chocolate and use the toothpick to “paint” 8 legs onto each cookie. I found it works best to get about 3/4 inch of chocolate on the toothpick, then set the toothpick sideways on the cookie, setting it right by the peanut butter cup then making a gentle motion down and away.
