A healthy apple smoothie that seriously tastes like apple pie!
Happy 4th of July my dear friends. I thought I would bring you the most patriotic thing I could find in my foodie backlog for this special occasion … I mean, what’s more American than apple pie?
I came across this recipe by way of my son. He likes to watch lots of interesting videos, most of them are science, physics, history, or gaming related. But once in a while, he chances across a food video that intrigues him. He has been trying to eat healthier lately, and this was something he told me he really wanted to try. In fact, we took a trip to the store specifically to buy apples and yogurt for this smoothie. I totally did not believe it would taste like apple pie. I mean how could blended apples, yogurt and ice ever mimic apple pie? But I was game to give it a shot. Hey, why not?
I was entirely surprised to find that it totally DOES tasted like apple pie. The texture (obviously) is not the same … my son thought it was a little too much like applesauce, but I thought it was really good. (And I don’t normally even like apples … well, that is, unless they are a pie or other baked deliciousness … but this is strangely just like that kind of baked apple pie goodness, with a nice chill to it.)
I hope you all enjoy this beautiful day of freedom. Let’s all cherish our country’s rich history and take a moment to be grateful for all that we have.
