Boozy homemade rich chocolate fudge ice cream that stays beautifully creamy in the freezer. I took my rich Bailey’s hot fudge sauce and mixed it with cream, added some Godiva liqueur and froze it … and it was marvelous.
It’s a dreamy creamy frozen cocktail in a bowl, a marvel to behold. If you’re a serious chocoholic like me, top it with more fudge sauce. Because sometimes one form of chocolate just isn’t enough …
I’m usually not one to overindulge in desserts, but one afternoon I had a bowl of this with fudge sauce. And then I “accidentally” filled up the bowl a second time and added more fudge sauce. And I wasn’t one bit sorry.
Originally I thought it would be fun to do a fudge ribbon in the ice cream, but things didn’t turn out that way. The ribbon sort of just disappeared into the ice cream. I thought about abandoning the recipe altogether and not blogging it, but then as I ate my way through the batch, I felt like it would be such a waste not to share this. It’s soooo good!
I do recommend putting this ice cream in the freezer after your ice cream maker is done. It’ll still be pretty soft and if it’s hot out, you’ll have ice cream soup on your hands. Because of the alcohol, the ice cream will harden, but it doesn’t get super hard like some homemade ice creams. It’s just right.
So here I present to you a break from salads and healthy things, a call to the indulgent side of you that wants ice cream and chocolate. And liqueur. Decadent, rich, creamy, super chocolatey … and yes, you can taste the liqueur. Make something else for the children–THIS ice cream is for the adults in the house.
PrintBoozy Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 3 minutes
- Total Time: 3 hours
- Yield: 4 - 6 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 1 cup Bailey’s hot fudge sauce – recipe here
- 3/4 cup fat free half & half (or regular half & half)
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1/2 cup Godiva chocolate liqueur
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, add the hot fudge sauce and half & half and warm in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then microwave again for another 30 seconds. Using a whisk, mix together the fudge sauce with the half and half until it becomes a smooth rich chocolate cream.
- Stir in the whipping cream and chocolate liqueur and whisk to mix. Set in the fridge until it is nice and cold.
- Churn the ice cream mixture in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions until the ice cream is soft serve consistency. (It might take a little longer than traditional ice creams because of the alcohol content.)
- Set in a freezer-safe container and freeze in the freezer for several hours or until hardened.
Notes
If you’re using an ice cream maker with a cold insert, make sure the insert is completely frozen.
