For all you dill pickle lovers out there, what could be better than a creamy cheesy dill pickle dip loaded with bits of juicy briny pickles and spiced perfectly to your liking, all heaped up in a bowl with your favorite dippers? Especially when said dip is a super easy thing you can whip up in your blender (with a little chopping) in less than 15 minutes?
I mean, I’m not even a pickle lover and I’m totally hooked on this dip! Knowing that I have some in my fridge, just waiting, I’m having a hard time resisting.
Fair warning: this is not the “dill pickle dip” you might have seen where they’re basically trying to re-create the cream cheese and meat-wrapped dill pickles in dip form. This dip is PURE dill pickle. It’s a smooth creamy cheesy base laced with all things dill pickle: garlic, pickles, dill, onion powder and (if you so choose) a little bit of heat (dill pickle hot sauce oh yeah baby!)
Is this Dill Pickle Dip Spicy?
That’s totally up to you! Keep in mind if you’re not a pepper head, you can skip the “hot sauce” part. You choose what’s right for YOU! Or hey, if you’re the cook, you choose what the rest of the crew gets. If you have a bunch of pepper heads and you want to indulge them, go for it. Add that extra hot sauce and a couple hot peppers if you dare.
Over here, I’ve been known to break this yummy dill pickle dip out for breakfast. But then, I’m not one to hold back on something I’m craving just because it’s breakfast time. I’ve found that breakfast is definitely the right time to indulge my cravings. Then for the rest of the day I can be good. By evening, as long as I can unwind with a glass of wine, I’m relaxed and happy.
Not that this dill pickle dip is unhealthy. To the contrary. The DIP itself, while super rich and creamy in flavor, has lots of health benefits. It’s super low in carbs-just 3g per serving! While delivering 3g of protein. That’s pretty dang cool. Plus if you’re using fermented pickles (I’m lookin’ at you, Claussen style pickles), this dip even delivers probiotics for your digestive and immune system. If you eat this dip with some carrot chips or other veggies, you’ve got a super healthy, super yummy snack that your body will thank you for.
The Secret Ingredient that Makes this Dip Healthy
So I’m guessing you might be wondering by now why this Dill Pickle Dip is healthy. While both (light) cream cheese and mayo play a part, cottage cheese supplies most of the cheesy creamy base. Before you get weirded out by that, let me tell you that you’ll find no curds in this dip! You simply blend up the cottage cheese until it reaches a delightfully creamy, smooth texture. Then mix in the rest of the ingredients. So the only chunks you’ll find are juicy dill pickle bits. Which is exactly what you want in a dill pickle dip, right?
How to Choose a Healthy, Yet Satisfying Dipper?
But you know, while I try to stay low-carb, sometimes I’m tempted by not-so-low-carb or not-so-healthy dippers (aka, chips or crackers). But then I remind myself that not all chips and crackers are equal. To keep your snacking healthy through the holidays and beyond, try these tips:
- Instead of potato chips, try veggie crisps.
- Choose high-fiber crackers, or whole grain crackers with nuts and seeds.
- Make your own crackers! Personally, I love the taste and crunch of my homemade sourdough crackers.
- Try using black bean chips (or white bean chips) in place of tortilla chips. Bean chips offer the same satisfying crunch, but are higher in fiber and protein.
- You can air fry or oven bake your veggies for even more snacking fun! “Fry” up some fun with air fried cauliflower, mushrooms or zucchini fritters.
- Add more fun to your dipping with oven baked steak fries or sweet potato fries.
- Meat lovers might choose air fryer chicken, shrimp, crunchy air fried fish or even sliced precooked chicken sausage.
Even if I put some chips and crackers on the tray, I try to add some raw veggie dippers too. Not just because they’re healthy, but also because they offer so many colors, textures and flavors! Choose cauliflower, carrots, celery, radishes, cherry tomatoes, kohlrabi, mushrooms, snow peas or fresh green beans. Offering veggies along-side other dippers encourages people to switch it up.
For the truly SERIOUS pickle lovers, of course you could also use pickles for dippers.

- Yield: 4 – 6 servings 1x
- Category: Appetizer
- Method: Chopped
- Cuisine: German
- Diet: Gluten Free
Ingredients
- 2 oz. light cream cheese
- 1/2 cup cottage cheese
- 2 Tablespoons mayo or plain Greek yogurt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon dried dill (or to taste)
- Optional: 1 – 2 teaspoons dill pickle hot sauce (or to taste) or other hot sauce
- Optional: 1 small jalapeno, seeded, chopped fine
- 2/3 – 1 cup chopped dill pickles
- 1/8 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
Instructions
- In a handi chopper or mini food processor, blend together the cream cheese and cottage cheese until all the lumps of the cottage cheese are gone and the mixture is very smooth. Add the remaining ingredients except the dill pickles and salt and pulse to mix.
- Remove the blade and stir in the pickles. Taste and adjust the salt and other seasonings. Put in a sealed container and refrigerate until serving time. Serve with chips, veggies or crackers for dipping. Also great on baked potatoes!
Notes
The dip will thicken in the fridge, so if needed, thin with a little pickle juice.
You don’t have to use pickled cucumbers … almost any pickled vegetable will work! I’ve made it with pickled eggplant and it worked really well.
