No Bisquick on hand? No problem! This easy homemade Bisquick recipe takes just a few minutes to toss together. Plus it has no shortening, no trans fats and no preservatives. Here we use heart healthy avocado oil and cut the amount in half.
Do you know someone who is always too busy to cook and is stressing out about how to get meals on the table? If so, here’s the perfect gift idea! Make a quick 10-minute recipe of homemade Bisquick. Then package it together with some homemade (or store bought) canned tomatoes, sauces, jam and/or syrup.
Put the recipe for homemade bisquick on the jar so they can make more when they run out. On the other side of the jar, you can add super simple recipes for the basics like pancakes, biscuits, muffins, etc. And, for the recipes you can’t fit on the jar, hand print some recipes on recipe cards. The recipe cards provide even more inspiration for things to put in the box!
So here’s the beginning of my gift box. A shoe box worked perfectly for it! I made a double batch so 2 jars of Bisquick. Then I added some homemade Italian tomato sauce that I pressure canned (which I thought would make a good pizza sauce), plus a can of my canned crushed tomatoes and a can of sliced olives. But I think I can tuck in at least one more ingredient. I can’t wait to give it to her! And I hope she tells me what she makes with it and how it turns out. Mostly, though, I really hope it makes her life easier. She’s been SO stressed lately.
The Basics
So when you think bisquick, of course pancakes come to mind. But there are many other basic “staples” you can make from Bisquick. Whether you make it at home or buy baking mix like Bisquick at the store, it’s nice to have these recipes on hand. So you can whip them up whenever you need.

Hearty Breakfasts
Bisquick is not just for pancakes! You can use this handy mix for heartier (and healthier) breakfasts as well. For a healthier breakfast option, use lots of veggies in casseroles, quiches or the breakfast souffle. Choose lean meats with less fat like turkey bacon or chicken breakfast sausage.

Clever Dinner Ideas using Bisquick
Did you know you could use Bisquick for dinner? In fact, the Cheeseburger Pie recipe from my friend at Southern with a Twist totally inspired me to make the gift – and this post. I found several other clever ideas as I was cruising for recipes to include in the box. They all sound SO good. And super easy too.

- Sloppy Joe Casserole
- Bisquick Pizza Crust
- Fiesta Beef & Cheese Skillet Cobbler

Bisquick Desserts
Bisquick is great for simplifying your desserts, too! I can’t say these desserts are healthy, but they are definitely easy, thanks to the pre-made bisquick!
- Impossible French Apple Pie
- Impossible Pumpkin Pie from Sugar and Soul
- Strawberry Shortcake
- Peanut Butter Cookies
- Bisquick Banana Bread
- Bisquick Peach Cobbler
I have to admit I cheated a little on this post. Since I haven’t made any Bisquick recipes myself and I’m giving away the mix, I’m borrowing images from other bloggers who have. I am giving them credit and providing a link to their posts, so I hope they’ll forgive me. Also, I sure hope you’ll visit some of their inspiring posts.
(Honestly, I might have to make me some of this magical stuff. Mine would definitely have more of the whole wheat flour, though. I didn’t think her kids would like whole wheat as much.)
Bisquick recipe adapted from An Affair with the Heart
PrintHomemade Heart Healthier Bisquick
- Prep Time: 5 min
- Cook Time: 5 min
- Total Time: 10 min
- Yield: About 3 cups of mix 1x
- Category: Mix
- Method: Bowl
- Cuisine: American
- Diet: Vegan
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour + 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour (use more whole wheat and less all purpose for better heart health)
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup avocado oil (or other neutral-tasting vegetable oil)
Instructions
Mix together the flours, baking powder and salt, then stir in the oil and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to make sure the oil is fully incorporated. Store in an airtight jar in the cupboard.
Notes
Some recipes call for 1/2 cup shortening or butter in place of the oil. If you use butter, make sure you store your bisquick in the fridge.

I am so excited to make this! Nettie
This is SUCH a great collection of recipes, Ann! So many ideas to use up my box of mix — or homemade mix! 🙂
Because there is oil in it, You can’t save it too long. Oil goes rancid .
So, Could I jut mix the 3 cups of wheat flour and baking powder and salt and save that?
And when I go to use it I will then put in the oil?
And does this recipe make 1 box of bisquick?

Hi Sheri,
You could absolutely do that! Great idea! I’m not sure about whether it makes a full box of Bisquick.
