Irish Butter & Bacon Braised Cabbage

Description

Humble cabbage is elevated to “wow” status with the simple addition of butter, a little bacon and onion. Just a few ingredients and about 15 minutes is all you need to make this comforting side dish.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/22 Tablespoons Irish butter
  • 12 slices bacon
  • 1 cup chopped red onion 
  • 4 cups chopped cabbage
  • Salt & freshly ground pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a medium frying pan over medium heat. Add the butter and bacon to the pan, then the red onion. Cook for several minutes, until the butter is soft and translucent.
  2. Use tongs to remove the strips of bacon, then chop them into small bits and add them back into the pan. Add the cabbage and gently stir to mix the cabbage with the butter, onions and bacon.
  3. Cover and cook, uncovering periodically to stir, until the cabbage is tender yet still crunchy in spots. Sprinkle with salt & freshly ground pepper to taste. Serve hot and enjoy!
