Treat yourself to the NEW surf and turf–at home! Grilled cauliflower steaks topped with buttery lobster and smothered in creamy vodka sauce make a low-carb, low calorie meal that is superbly satisfying and, with just four ingredients (plus seasonings), it’s really easy to put together. Aside from the lobster, all you need is a grill (charcoal or gas), some cauliflower, olive oil, butter and a jar of vodka sauce. Okay, to be honest, you do need a couple other kitchen tools … a silicon basting brush would be handy, and some grilling tools for flipping the cauliflower steaks. If you have fresh basil leaves and parmesan cheese, they make a nice garnish, but they’re totally not required.
After I made my creamy good (and totally addictive) vodka sauce, I went searching for things to make with this amazing sauce and (not unsurprisingly) most of them were pasta. Well, pasta is not really something I include in my diet very often anymore, since I’m trying not to eat too many carbs. I didn’t find many low-carb recipes using vodka sauce, but I stumbled across a cauliflower casserole with loads of melted mozzarella cheese. That looked good and I tried it, but it was too much food for little old me. (My carbaholic kids certainly wouldn’t eat anything like THAT!) I didn’t eat it all in time and it went bad. Sad face.
But THEN I found some little frozen fully cooked (sustainably caught!) lobster meat at Costco the other day and it struck me that LOBSTER with VODKA SAUCE sounded really good. So, in order to make a yummy vodka dish without tons of carbs, I decided to do a little “surf and turf” thing, but using cauliflower steaks in place of the traditional beef steak.
Oh man, was THAT the perfect way to use vodka sauce! Not only was the sauce a perfect pairing with the lobster, it was also a wonderful compliment to the smoky grilled cauliflower steaks. After chowing down this “steak” and lobster, my taste buds and tummy were both dancing with joy.
Don’t worry if some of your cauliflower steaks fall apart on the grill … you can still toss them with lobster and vodka sauce and it will taste just as good. I made this meal just for me, so it’s written up per single serving. Hey, some days you need to treat yourself! (I’m of the mindset to feed myself well ESPECIALLY when I’m cooking just for me … because THEN I can make things exactly how I like them.)
Can you substitute other seafood for the lobster? Oh absolutely! You could use shrimp or lump crab meat or sea scallops.
PrintLobster alla Vodka w/Grilled Cauliflower Steaks

- Cook Time: 20 minutes
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 1 serving 1x
Ingredients
- For the cauliflower steaks:
- 1 head cauliflower
- Olive oil
- Red Robin Seasoning (or your favorite seasoned salt) and Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning salute (or non-salt seasoning)
- For the lobster, per person:
- About 1/4 cup vodka sauce (store-bought or this recipe)
- 2 teaspoons grass fed butter
- About 3 oz. cooked lobster, cut into small chunks
- For garnish: fresh basil and a few shards or shreds of parmesan cheese

- Grill the cauliflower for several minutes on each side, until browned, perhaps charred in a few spots and crisp tender.
- When the cauliflower is almost done, heat the vodka sauce in a small saucepan (or warm in the microwave). Heat the butter in a small frying pan and toss the lobster in the butter just until heated. (If using raw lobster, cook just until it turns pink.)
- Place a cauliflower steak on a plate, top with lobster, then vodka sauce. Garnish with fresh basil (or other herbs) and cheese if desired. Enjoy!
