It’s Christmas, and every year I do a vodka infusion for my sister who loves vodka. This year I was late. I got busy with other things and didn’t get the infusion started and I panicked a little bit … but then I remembered that my yoga friend makes Limoncello using a simple lemon syrup every year.
I crossed my fingers and hoped that my sis likes Limoncello. I wasn’t sure … but then I asked myself … who doesn’t love Limoncello? It’s such a lovely mix of sweet and sour and alcohol. When I started, I totally meant to make just plain lemon-flavored Limoncello, but then I realized that I had blueberry lavender syrup in my fridge and that would save me a step. I’m guessing it makes an extra step for most of you (sorry!), but it really is such an easy step to make the blueberry lavender syrup … and you will love having that lovely syrup on hand. It’s delightful in cocktails, or just as a flavor splash for prosecco or sparkling water.
Most Limoncello recipes tell you it takes weeks to do the infusion. This one is ready overnight.
I was happy when my sister opened her gift and said that yes, she does love limoncello. She hasn’t tasted this yet … she took it home with her without tasting it. Fingers crossed she will love it. I did a little taste test before I gifted it all away and my tastebuds loved it. I may have to make another batch for myself. I need to get me some more vodka.
I knew I wouldn’t get adequate pictures of the beautiful magenta color of this infusion inside, so I ventured out into my back yard to take the photos. We had a fresh coat of snow … beautiful, big fluffy crystals. Happy holidays, my dear foodie friends and cheers to a happy new year for all of us!
PrintQuick Blueberry Lavender Limoncello
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 12 hours
- Total Time: 12 hours 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 cups vodka
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
- 3 lemons
- 1/2 cup blueberry lavender syrup (recipe here)
Instructions
- Wash the lemons thoroughly. Use a zester or small grater to zest the lemons, removing just the yellow rind, with as little of the white pith underneath as possible.
- Put the zest in a quart jar, add the blueberries and squish with a spoon to release the juices. then pour the vodka over it. Pour in the syrup, shake and put in a dark place to rest at least 12 hours or for up to 3 days.
- Pour the mixture through a fine strainer (or cheesecloth) to remove the zest and blueberries. I have a little strainer that fits over my funnel so I can funnel it right into the bottle. Enjoy in cocktails or it makes a lovely gift.

[…] lavender syrup that made it’s way into a lovely Blueberry Lavender Rum Fizz … and some Blueberry Lavender Limoncello that I gave my sister for […]
How long can you leave this limoncello out? I’d like to make it for someone’s birthday, but that won’t be till the 24th of September. Should I let the blueberries/lemon zest sit till a few days before, then add the syrup?
Hi Kay,
You can add the syrup right away. The alcohol in the vodka acts as a preservative, so it should keep just fine until your friend’s birthday. The color might fade over time, but the flavor will still be there.
I hope your friend loves the limoncello!
