Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup butter (preferably grass fed)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 cup white whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- a pinch of cardamom (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 – 1 1/2 cups apples, peeled & diced into 1/4 inch pieces (1 1/2 – 2 apples)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F. Spray a 8×8 or 9×9 inch square pan with cooking spray or lightly brush with oil.
- Cream together the butter and sugar, then stir in the egg and vanilla until well mixed. Mix in the dry ingredients, then add the apples.
- Spread the batter into the prepared pan, then bake at 350 F. for 30 – 45 minutes or until nicely browned on top but puffy in the middle. The middle will fall, but that just makes them more brownie-esque.
